Partnership for Women Empowerment-Joint Statement to UNITED NATIONS

Joint Statement

United Nations 51 Commission on Women Status

Feb 27, 2007 . New York . USA.

We the representatives of Terre Vivante , an NGO in Special Status with United Nations ECOSOC and the Union for Democracy and Progress Party, UDP are greatly appreciating the Commission agenda priority theme of the 2007 , the ELIMINATION OF ALL FORMS OF DISCRIMINATION AND VIOLENCE AGAINST THE GIRL CHILD and the important review topic on the ROLE OF MEN AND BOYS IN PROMOTING GENDER EQUALITY to be the fabric of education and social norms.

We strongly support Women Empowement to be decision makers, through education and poverty reduction as the most effective strategies for family protection and socio-economic development. That is why we launch Parnership for Women Empowerment in cooperation with  the world community of NGO`s and Civil Society, Media houses ....

Hereby we do size this world gathering opportunity to extend a warm welcome to  invited all the stakeholders of public, private sectors or civil society to join this great Theme as working group of international networking for better future of our daughters, sisters and mothers, without violence or discrimination. Women leadership will be the effective solution to overcome all forms of violence with the kind help of our civilized and compassionate brothers in the noble mission we are leading.

We will be pleased to see such theme in the work of all NGOs , political parties and the current media coverage  and in the teachings of the world educators and the statements of the political leaders locally, nationally and globally. As a representative of the UDP,Mauritania if not the entire Arab world only political party, chaired by the lady Naha Bint MOUKNASS  who was keen to attend but she was not able to make it this time unfortunately. On her behalf and the working team and our partners in the NGOs, I am really honored and pleased to attend this special Commission despite the Presential Elections Campaign that are going right in Mauritania to choose for the first in our political history a leadership with military participation.

We in the UDP party are catergorically against any forms of physical or psycholgical violence. We have to bring home the good news of your promises to get 50 percent represenation , a  happy dream that we like to live in Mauritania, in Africa and the world with full respect of women and girls human rights. The UDP and Terre Vivante NGO do appreciate the latest move of the Mauritanian President Ely Ould Mohamed VALL by passing an obligatory quater of female participation by 20 percent at least in both municipal and legislative elections. We have already passed the quater and we will go beyond it shorly. We want more and more for our women in Mauritania, Africa and the Arab region to get better quaters in order to fully participate in the development of their countries as leaders and not only traditional mothers overloaded by domistic work ...We hope that other countries will follow the example of women emancipation and empowerment in cooperation with the world community under the leadership of the United Nations Commission on Women Advancement . It is time to act with the help of development partners for a better world for all of us regardless of one race , age , sex or faith. Thanks for joining the team of equity and justice to encourage women leadership for girls bright future. Thank you for your kind attention.
