THE UNION FOR DEMOCRACY AND PROGRESS, UDP Party 

As a representative of the UDP, Mauritania if not the entire Arab world only political party, chaired by the lady Naha Bint MOUKNASS who was keen to attend but she was not able to make it this time unfortunately. On her behalf and the working team and our partners in the NGOs, I am really honoured and pleased to attend this special Commission despite the Presidential Elections Campaign that are going right in Mauritania to choose for the first in our political history a leadership with military participation.

We in the UDP party are categorically against any forms of physical or psychological violence. We have to bring home the good news of your promises to get 50 percent representation, a happy dream that we like to live in Mauritania, in Africa and the world with full respect of women and girls human rights. The UDP and Terre Vivante NGO do appreciate the latest move of the Mauritanian President Ely Ould Mohamed VALL by passing an obligatory rate of female participation by 20 percent at least in both municipal and legislative elections. We have already passed the rate and we will go beyond it shortly.

We want more and more for our women in Mauritania, Africa and the Arab region to get better results in order to fully participate in the development of their countries as leaders and not only traditional mothers overloaded by domestic work ...We hope that other countries will follow the example of women emancipation and empowerment in cooperation with the world community under the leadership of the United Nations Commission on Women Advancement. It is time to act with the help of development partners for a better world for all of us regardless of one race, age, sex or faith.
